Ireland Photo Diary

Last May my parents came to visit us from Australia. Their visit was just in time to mark my first year in the UK and I couldn't have been more over the moon when they told us they'd booked tickets! It was their first time in the UK and Dan's first time meeting them, so a pretty big moment for all of us! We decided the best way to break the ice was to book tickets for us all to go to Ireland for a long weekend when they first arrived! We arrived in Dublin and collected our hire car from Sixt and headed straight over to the beautiful West Coast! We spent the next few days exploring the breathtaking Wild Atlantic Way, ticking off huge bucket list items like the Cliffs of Moher and stumbling across gorgeous unknown places such as Kinvara and Dunguaire Castle. The three of us Aussies and even Dan the Englishman all were blown away by Ireland's beauty and had the most incredible time! It was also the perfect bonding experience for Dan and my parents (especially over a fair few Guinnesses)! Here's a collection of our favourite photos and memories from our days exploring the Emerald Isle.

Jungfraujoch: A Journey to the Top of Europe

One of the highlights of our trip to Switzerland was visiting the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe! We took an incredible train journey from Grindelwald all the way to the highest railway station in Europe which is located 3,454 metres above sea level! It was a beautiful, scenic train ride and an incredible experience to be standing at the Top of Europe! It was a wonderful experience and despite not having great visibility at the top due to the weather we still had an amazing day out!

Falling in Love with Grindelwald

If you follow us on Instagram you'll know that we recently visited Switzerland for our two year anniversary! We stayed at the stunning and luxurious Hotel Belvedere in Grindelwald. Grindelwald is the most magical village located high in the Swiss Alps and literally looks like it is from a Christmas Card! The whole time we were there I couldn't stop telling Dan how I felt like we were living in a real life snow globe! We both fell head over heels in love with Grindelwald and were actually imagining our lives if we were lucky enough to move here! From exploring the Jungfraujoch Top of Europe on the most scenic train ride ever to strolling the snow covered streets and lounging in our outdoor hot tub in a snow storm... our stay in Grindelwald was absolutely magical. We've already planned to come back in April to explore it in Spring and cannot wait! Here are some of our favourite photos from our visit to show just how beautiful this part of the world truly is!

A Winter Wonderland at Luxurious Hotel Belvedere Grindelwald

We recently visited Switzerland for our anniversary and stayed at Hotel Belvedere in Grindelwald. Grindelwald is a magical village in the Alps which looks as if it is off the front of a Christmas Card and Hotel Belvedere is truly the perfect place to stay to experience this wonderful part of the world. The hotel is a beautiful, family run hotel where you are treated like family by the staff. Every window of the hotel offers the most breathtaking views over the Alps and we fell in love immediately from the moment we arrived.

It's no lie that I LOVE Christmas and when were invited to the opening night of Winter Wonderland Hyde Park in London I jumped with joy (quite literally)! I'd seen Elf the Musical the night before at the Dominion Theatre and was feeling extremely festive already! We loved strolling around Hyde Park which was jam packed full with Christmas spirit, shops and rides with Christmas songs playing and delicious smells wafting everywhere you walk!

I absolutely LOVE Christmas, Snow, Ice Skating and anything festive! Being an Aussie we don’t often get the opportunity to ice skate but since I have been living in the Northern Hemisphere I’ve had the chance to go three times and whilst I am never going to represent my country in the Olympics for ice skating, I do love it! I’m currently feeling very festive after a visit to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland here in London and our recent trip to the stunning Swiss Alps where I fell more and more in love with snow & mountains! I find snow and ice skating so magical and wanted to share 10 of the most magical ice skating rinks around the world!

Elf the Musical at London's Dominion Theatre

Last week we were invited to attend the Dominion Theare in London to 'Discover our Inner Elf'. Elf the Musical has hit London and you would have to be a complete scrooge not to love it! The Musical is based on the famous hit movie Elf, which was released in 2003 starring the loveable Will Ferrell. Every aspect of the show was fantastic and the Dominion Theatre was the perfect venue… they even managed to make it snow inside the theatre!

Whale Watching in Port Macquarie, Australia

Our trip home to Australia this year was in prime whale watching season. Beautiful humpback whales migrate along the East Coast of Australia every year and we are truly lucky to be able to see these magnificent creatures in the wild most days whilst we were there. My parents also surprised us with a whale watching cruise which was certainly a highlight of our trip!

My Norwegian Peaks and Valleys: Trolltunga and Geirangerfjord

Oh, Norway. For as long as I can remember this place was a magical, mysterious destination for me.  The hazy beauty of majestic glaciers and fjords lured me for months, and finally – I made it to the homeland of blonde blue-eyed people and funny, yet sneaky trolls!

During my trip I saw all of the most famous and beautiful places in Norway, but for today I will feature the two of the must-sees when visiting Norway: Trolltunga and Geirangerfjord.

Zushi Sushi & Teppanyaki in Surfers Paradise

We spent a week at the Gold Coast on our recent trip to Australia and spent most of the time with our friends and family in the lead up to Sam & Brooke's wedding. After the wedding, Dan and I spent a few days on our own in Surfers Paradise, and whilst we were out searching for a restaurant for dinner one night we came to the realisation that Dan had never, ever eaten any form of Japanese food! We quickly had to change that & found ourselves almost immediately seated at beach front Zushi Suhi & Teppanyaki.

My Top South American Wildlife Experiences

South America is the land of culture, colour, passion, and adventure. It captured my heart, with its diverse landscapes that attract a multitude of weird and wonderful creatures. I spent 6 months travelling the left hand-side of this incredible continent. When first arriving in Peru, I just hoped to see a real life llama. I left having seen more than I could ever have dreamed of.

A Photo Diary of Port Macquarie's Beautiful Beaches

You'll find my beautiful home town, Port Macquarie on the Mid North Coast of Australia, between Sydney and Brisbane. I've been lucky enough to travel quite a lot of the last few years and whilst I have had some incredible experiences all around the world if someone were to ask my favourite place in the world... I would always answer with Port Macquarie! For water babies like us it is the ideal place to visit (or live) with no shortage of stunning beaches and waterways. I absolutely loved showing it off to Dan on our recent trip home and I am pleased to stay he absolutely loved it!

Whilst photos will never truly give it justice, we just wanted to show you a little insight into our beautiful coastal town and for anyone visiting Australia, we hope you will add this to your bucket list... it is a slice of paradise!

Relaxed, Waterside Dining at Zebu Bar + Grill

Before I moved to the UK, Zebu Bar + Grill in Port Macquarie was one of my favourite places to meet friends to catch up over dinner and drinks. It is one of the most popular restaurants and bars in the town with both locals and holiday makers alike, which is not surprising given its iconic waterfront location.

Petting Kangaroo's and Cuddling Koalas at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Leading up to our Australia trip Dan started to get excited about all the Australian wildlife he'd be meeting whilst we were over there. I also did catch him a number of times on YouTube watching videos of Kangaroos! Whilst we were staying on the Gold Coast for Sam & Brooke's wedding, we decided to take a trip to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane. We spent our day cuddling Koalas, feeding kangaroos and visiting the many other animals that live in the beautiful, natural animal sanctuary which is spread over 18 hectares of native Australian bush land.

Run or Dye at Hever Castle

Back in Australia, my friends and I would do a Colour Run every single year without fail. It was always a good excuse for a weekend away to Sydney to catch up with all the girls especially as we've all scattered across the country over the last few years since finishing Uni. Over the last few weeks Dan and I had spotted lots of signs around the area advertising Run or Dye at Hever Castle. It took a little convincing but I finally managed to convince him that we should sign up & we had such a fun, colourful day running around the beautiful grounds of Hever Castle in Kent.

10 Reasons Mad Monkey Hostel is the best Hostel in Siem Reap

Dan and I have both backpacked through six continents in our travels and whilst our style of travel has now shifted more to a flashpacker style, we still occasionally opt to stay in hostels in order to meet other travellers. Having studied International Relations & Politics at University, I have a passion for social justice and always love to hear about organisations that are making a positive impact on their community. We recently heard about Mad Monkey Hostel in Siem Reap, a fun, upmarket, party hostel that is truly making a difference in their local community. Cambodia is a country that has been through a lot over the past few decades and Mad Monkey Hostel is truly making a real impact on the community and Cambodian people. It is nice to know that by choosing to stay at Mad Monkey, a little bit of your money is going to help the community and here is our 10 reasons why we think Mad Monkey is the best Flashpacker Hostel in Siem Reap.

A Luxury Transfer from Sydney Airport with hoppa

Recently we arrived in beautiful Sydney for a three week trip to visit family, friends, attend my brother's wedding & explore as much of the beautiful East Coast as we could! Lately we've opted for booking private car services to collect us from the Airport and take us to our hotel, particularly when we are travelling in a big city. We flew into Sydney with a ridiculous amount of luggage as we are moving back here next year and I've heard great reviews of hoppa recently so we decided to give them a go, and we were not disappointed. It really was the quickest, simplest, most luxurious and hassle free way to get from the Airport to our Hotel.

Top Things to do in Nice

This summer has been filled with quite a few short European adventures, the most recent one being a trip to Nice, on the French Riviera. Staying in an Airbnb apartment, my friend and I were committed to making the most out of our 5 days, with a whole host of trips and activities planned. I always knew Nice would be beautiful, but I never expected to love it as much as I did - I just didn't want to leave!

I thought it would be fun to list a few of the things you can get up to there, as despite it being known to many as a quiet destination along the coast, there really is so much on offer to see and do.

Jet Lag & A Gorgeous Sydney Sunrise

On our first morning in Sydney we woke up about 4am Australian time (thank you jet lag!) and Dan tried to kill some time researching what to do with our morning when he discovered that our where we were staying at Watson's Bay was actually only a few minutes from one of the best spots to see the sunrise in all of Sydney! We left the hotel about 5am and walked up to the Gap in Sydney Harbour National Park. The Gap is unfortunately well known for a number of negative reasons but we want to share just beautiful it is and what an incredible start to our Sydney adventures we had here.

Bays, Beaches, Boats & Sydney Sunsets

After 40 odd hours of travel we have made it to Sydney! YAY! It was a seriously long, long journey and anyone who has ever flown from London to Sydney will attest to that fact. We arrived to the most spectacular weather (even though it is still officially Winter in Australia) and I am pretty sure we were the only people wearing shorts and t-shirts but we are absolutely loving the sunshine and truly making the most of it! We spent yesterday exploring beautiful Watson's Bay, relaxing at the beach, watching surfers at Manly Beach and marvelling at the sunset over beautiful Sydney Harbour.

Top Things to do in Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands

This little island is what started my lust to become an expat. I was lucky enough to get to live there for three months in 2009 while volunteering at the only museum in the country. During that time, I met other expats and I knew that I wanted to live abroad. However, Grand Turk is my favorite island getaway! Since living there, I have visited twice.

I love a Sunburnt Country... Twenty Things I miss about Australia

Anyone who has met an Aussie abroad will know that we LOVE our country and well, love to talk about how much we love it. I do (like most) think we are the luckiest country in the world and as much as I love travelling, the more I travel, the more I realise this is true. As most of you know, I moved to the UK almost 18 months ago and as much as I love our life in the UK, there's a lot of things I seriously miss about Australia.

Exploring England's South Coast with our Aussie Visitors

We are lucky enough to live in a very beautiful part of the UK. You'll find us in a village in the gorgeous countryside pretty much halfway between London and Brighton. When I first moved to the UK I was a little taken aback and felt like we were kind of in the middle of no where but I quickly fell in love with our quiet village and love that we have the best of both worlds, living in the peaceful, beautiful countryside and still being less than an hours train ride to both the big city and also the sea side.

The South of England Show

The South of England Show is held annually just up the road from where we live, in Ardingly. This year on a weekend at home we woke up to a sunny, summers day and decided to head up the road and check out what it was all about! The South of England Show showcases the best of agriculture and farming across the South East region of England and features non stop displays and action in the arenas. In addition to the agriculture and farming, the finale of each day was a performance by the Bolddog's, a freestyle motorcycle display team in the main ring.

We've got a jam packed few weeks planned and wanted to share our rough itinerary for our three week trip!

To say we are a excited is an understatement, especially when this beach is pretty much in our backyard!

Exploring Leeds Castle - The Loveliest Castle in the World

Leeds Castle is located in Kent and is lovingly known as "The Loveliest Castle in the World". I've been lucky enough to see a decent number of castles in all my travels, and I think that Leeds Castle deserves its nickname. It is a truly beautiful castle, surrounded by a moat and 500 acres of gorgeous grounds and gardens. We took my mum & dad there when they came to visit and it was their first castle they saw in the UK and to say they were blown away was an understatement!
