10 Beautiful Australian Ocean Baths

Australia is blessed with the perfect climate, crystal clear waters, beautiful beaches and an abundance of enticing swimming pools along its coastline. These swimming pools are also known as ocean baths, rockpools and tidal pools. Dotted along the coastline of Australia are over 100 ocean baths which are either natural tidal pools or have been dramatically man made and carved into rocky sandstone ledges. Each ocean bath is unique, filled with crystal clear sea water and blends beautifully into their natural surroundings. Ocean baths offer safe and relaxing swimming for locals, visitors, families, the young and the old.

Regular readers of the blog will have seen me post regularly about my beautiful home town of Port Macquarie in Australia. I've been inspired by a campaign that is currently happening there at the moment where the locals are gathering support for the construction of a tidal pool.  Whilst we are currently on the other side of the world, we'll finally be returning to beautiful Port Macquarie in July and I would love to hear that hopefully this exciting campaign has progressed by then! Inspired by the local campaign, we're sharing ten of Australia's most beautiful ocean baths.

Old School 11: A Self Catered Holiday on the Shores of Loch Ness

Our final destination on our Scottish adventures was Fort Augustus with the intent of visiting the famous Loch Ness. Our choice of accommodation truly could not have been any better as our spacious, luxury holiday Apartment, Old School 11 was located in the Highland Club at the Fort Augustus Abbey. The Highland Club is located on the shores of Loch Ness and boasts 20 acres of beautiful gardens and unparalleled views of the famous loch. The gorgeous "Category A" listed historical building holds an incredible history as a Abbey where generations of St Benedictine Monks lived and worshipped for many, many years. The Abbey has since been respectfully renovated and converted into luxury holiday apartments. We had a great stay in our luxury apartment where everything we needed for a wonderful self-catering holiday was provided for us.

Scotland Photo Diary

Scotland is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and on our recent trip we were lucky enough to experience true Scottish hospitality, encounter incredible wildlife and explore one of the most naturally beautiful countries in the world. We spent a week exploring Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands and fell head over heels in love with the rugged, remote and naturally stunning Highland region which is a destination that should be on everyone's bucket list. We were also lucky enough to experience an incredible Log Cabin stay at Eagle Brae, which now tops the list of our favourite places we've ever stayed! We loved every bit of Scotland and despite mother nature turning on us in Edinburgh we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather throughout most of our visit and even some snow which made this Aussie a happy little Vegemite! If you haven't yet experienced the beauty and charm of Scotland we urge you to add it to your bucket list!

Exploring the Magical Scottish Highlands

Scotland was the last country in the UK I had left to visit and I had quite high expectations given the incredible reviews I'd heard from friends and family who had visited before me. Dan and I spent a week exploring the beautiful Scottish Highlands and their many diverse landscapes. Scotland is a country of natural beauty, endless freshwater lochs, magical glens, charming castles with extensive histories and evergreen forests with soaring snowcapped mountains in every direction. The Scottish Highlands were everything and more I'd hoped they would be, and we cannot wait to visit again in the future and explore Scotland further.

Standing High Above the City - The Impressive Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is without a doubt the most iconic and dominant building in Edinburgh. This historic fortress dominates the skyline of Edinburgh and also provides the most incredible 360° views of the Scottish Capital from its position on the Castle Rock. The castle has an incredible history dating all the way back to at least the Iron Age and has survived through the many wars and battles that Scotland has seen during her time. The Castle is the most impressively built fortress we've ever seen and we had a great time exploring the castle's many buildings and important historical sights trying to learn as much about this incredible site as possible! If you are planning a trip to Edinburgh, make sure you add a visit to Edinburgh Castle to your itinerary - it is not to be missed!
