The Best Illuminated Landmarks around the World

We've always thought we preferred escaping to beaches and the mountains over the hustle and bustle of cities but the more cities we visit the more we realise we love a good city break as much as the next person! Some of our favourite cities around the world are London, Rome, New York, Paris and Sydney and we are in awe of some landmarks around the world, especially when they are beautifully illuminated of an evening. Festive Lights has released a really interesting infographic that was also featured on Business Insider about lighting around the world and how much it costs to keep the world's landmarks and light shows lit up. We wanted to share some of our favourite illuminated landmarks around the world and would love to hear some of yours!

Our Honeymoon Plans: We're off to the Maldives & Sri Lanka!

I'm ecstatic because in just over two months time Dan and I will be newlyweds and jetting off on our honeymoon! Our original honeymoon plan was to spend three weeks up the Great Barrier Reef and we'd booked an amazing trip that included Hamilton Island, Cairns, Fitzroy Island and a few nights on a live-aboard where we would scuba dive multiple times a day on the reef. I, being completely OCD was reading up on recent reviews of our luxury apartment on Hamilton Island and much to my horror discovered that it was literally a construction site for the rest of the year with new apartments being built and the pool having been damaged in the last cyclone. This was not the honeymoon I'd imagined and so we made the decision to cancel/postpone our trip to the Great Barrier Reef and book the destination I'd always dreamed of honeymooning at: the Maldives!! We also decided to add a week in Sri Lanka onto our honeymoon as well as it is so close!

How to Pack Hand-Luggage Friendly Hair Care Products

It's been over 10 years since rules were introduced around taking liquids in your hand luggage when flying, but even the most frequent of flyers can get confused by the restrictions! When we lived in the UK we became pro's at travelling with only carry on luggage as we lived close to Gatwick and we would fly with EasyJet, one of Europe's best budget airlines. Whether you are going on a jam-packed city break, a spa weekend, or a luxurious long-haul holiday, downsizing your toiletries and hair care products to comply with hand luggage restrictions can be a daunting and stressful task! The different weather conditions of holiday destinations can leave your hair feeling lackluster if it’s not cared for properly. Hand luggage restrictions are in place for our safety when travelling, however it can be difficult to decide which of your beloved hair care products make the cut. That's why we've teamed up with FUE hair transplant experts, Crown Clinic, who have generously offered their best tips, so that you don’t have to sacrifice good hair on holiday and can still get those all important, perfect shots for Instagram!

The Best Ways to Get Active on Your Bali Holiday

Bali is a destination that has long been on our radar, and whilst Dan visited long before we met, now that we are living in Australia we are itching to get over there together (we even considered it for our honeymoon, but the Maldives won in the end)! Bali is the perfect destination for us as it combines both adventure and luxury. I’d love to rent a villa in Bali and spent half my holiday exploring the island and half my holiday relaxing in luxury. For a small island Bali is bursting with adventure and here are some of the top ways to stay active and get the most out of your Bali holiday!

A Beautiful Winter's Day at Little Bay

Today was one of those rare and lovely days where we woke up with absolutely no plans at all. It was such a beautiful winter's day with the sun shining and the temperature rising to the high 20's! Dan and I packed our beach towels and a book each and headed to Lighthouse Beach, one of our favourite beaches in our hometown of Port Macquarie. We parked our car at Tacking Point Lighthouse and decided that rather than head down to Lighthouse Beach, we would check out beautiful Little Bay, which is situated north of the Lighthouse.

Six week long winter escapes from Australia

After two UK winters I thought I would never complain about an Australian winter again, turns out I was wrong. There's nothing like daylight savings ending, a bit of drizzle and winter chill for one to start daydreaming about tropical climates, sunshine and holidays! Whilst we love ski holidays and visiting snowy places, we really don't enjoy the cold when there is no snow involved and so more often than not end up chasing the summer sun! There are some incredible places in Asia and the Pacific that are right on our doorstep and are perfect to visit during winter! Here are six destinations that could provide you with the perfect week long winter escape from Australia!

A Vivid Sydney Photo Diary

Vivid Sydney is an annual winter festival of light, music and ideas showcasing amazing light sculptures, creative industry forums and a cutting-edge contemporary music program. The most iconic part of Vivid is the illumination of the Sydney Opera House sails! Vivid Sydney is grown to become the largest of its kind in the world and is an event that has been on my radar for a long time. We made the trip down the Sydney on the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend and loved exploring the city whilst being dazzled by the light installations! Vivid has grown so big that this year there was over 400 music events, 260 ideas sessions and 90 light installations spread across seven locations! Our favourite aspects of the festival were seeing the Opera House lit up, experiencing the light and music show at Darling Harbour, taking part in the Vivid Light walk along the foreshore, through the lanes and backstreets of The Rocks and through the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens.

We booked an amazing Vivid package at Rydges Sydney Central and loved the uniqueness of this modern, elegant hotel and its convenient location in Surry Hills. We had an amazing weekend checking out all that Vivid had to offer and really enjoyed our stay at Rydges, a hotel we would certainly return to again when visiting the city.

A Girls Weekend at the Luxurious Meriton Parramatta

Last weekend I headed down to Sydney with my mum and three best friends from University to go wedding dress shopping! Our wedding is six months away and whilst I was incredibly nervous about the dress shopping experience I was really excited to have a girls weekend in the city! I'd done a great deal of research and found a lot of beautiful dresses at Luv Bridal in Parramatta that I absolutely adored! I booked us into the luxurious Meriton Church Street Serviced Apartments in Parramatta for the weekend and it was the most amazing weekend where I am happy to say that I 'said yes to my dress' and then celebrated with a very indulgent weekend at the Meriton in our very luxurious River View suite!

Waverley Mills: Australia's Oldest & Most Luxurious Textiles Company

After travelling and living abroad for the better part of my twenties, I am really enjoying settling down and making a home back in Australia. Whilst we still have plenty of travel plans, both Dan and I find we are also craving some normality and a place to call home. Last year we saved a lot and purchased the beautiful furniture I’d always wanted and it’s so nice to come home from work and appreciate what you work so hard for. Obviously you need more than furniture to make a home and so we’ve been loving scouting out our favourite Australian companies and brands to style our home. I have recently fallen in love with Waverley Mills and their gorgeous, sophisticated blankets, scarves and throws. Waverley Mills is Australia’s oldest working textile mill and they have recently teamed up with award-winning Australian designers to create an amazing new look and feel for their products (and trust me, it has worked)!

Hiking Lake Titicaca's Isla del Sol

Lake Titicaca is the world’s largest, high altitude lake and it is easy to understand how the Incas give credit to Lake Titicaca for the creation of their entire civilisation. Located on the Southern Part of Lake Titicaca, Isla del Sol is considered by the Incas to be the birthplace of the Sun God. My best friend and I were on a tour of Bolivia and Peru with Dragoman for the final month of our time in South America. We visited this tranquil island on a day trip from Copacabana and the day we spent hiking and exploring it was a welcome relief after the craziness of La Paz!

Australia vs UK: Comparing our cost of Living

Have you ever considered packing up your bags and moving yourself to another country, or perhaps all the way to the other side of the world? Whether you are seeking a sea change, a move to the mountains or to a country with a completely different culture, don't worry you are not alone! I think Australians (and a lot of Brits) are born with itchy feet and a desire to see the world and immerse ourselves in different cultures, religions, cuisines and experiences. The biggest question most people have is just how much it costs to live in another country, compared to where you are from. I've lived in Australia, the US and the UK and Dan moved from the UK to Australia with me so we have some kind of idea about how much it costs to live in other countries. We also recently discovered who have created an amazingly helpful calculator which allows you to see how your spending habits and lifestyle compare to those in the most popular expat destinations around the world!

The Spectacular Diamond Head Loop Walk

On Easter Friday we packed up the car and headed south to beautiful Diamond Head. Diamond Head is located in Crowdy Bay National Park, about 45 minutes south of Port Macquarie. Dan and I have camped at Diamond Head before and absolutely love the whole area with its natural beauty, empty beaches, excellent surf, white sand, friendly wildlife, excellent facilities and great walks! On this occasion we did the Diamond Head loop walk which gave us stunning scenic coastal views across the hinterland and coastline throughout the entire walk. The walk took us just under two hours and we loved every bit of the scenery, especially the panoramic vistas and the glinting rock faces which are said to have given Diamond Head its name.

My Top 10 Travel Bucket List

Travel is my absolute favourite thing in the world and whilst I am constantly ticking things off my bucket list, I feel like it grows longer even quicker as I am constantly adding new things to it! In the last few years I have ticked off things I never dreamed I would. I've hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, paid my respects to the ANZACs at Gallipoli, wandered the ancient streets of Rome, ridden a camel through the Sahara Desert, hang-glided over Rio de Janeiro, took a helicopter over the Grand Canyon, swam in Loch Ness in the middle of winter, lived abroad and island hopped the Greek Islands just to name a few! Today I am sharing my top 10 bucket list experiences and would love to hear if any of these are on your bucket list

Incredible Incan Ruins to Visit in Peru

In 2007 the incredible archaeological site of Machu Picchu was voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. This was unsurprising for anyone who has ever experienced the wonders of this magical site or for anyone who has long dreamed of visiting and ticking it off their bucket list. A lot of visitors to Peru aren’t aware of the countless other incredible Incan Ruins in Peru, many of which can be combined with a visit to Machu Picchu and most of which are within a few hours of Cusco! Peru is brimming with ancient ruins which detail the lives of the incredible Incan civilisation which thrived for over a century and are well worth visiting on your travels around Peru. I have been fascinated with the Incas and ever since I studied art at school and we spent a whole term on this ancient civilisation, along with the Mayan civilisation. To visit Peru and actually explore some of these incredible sites in person was an experience I'll never forget.

Koala Mattress-In-a-Box: The Perfect Australian Mattress

In the latter part of last year I finally made the move back home to Australia after a few years gallivanting around the world and two years living in the UK. This time I bought Dan home with me. Luckily thanks to our awesome Aussie way of life, our seemingly endless summer, sunshine, surf and beaches it didn't take much convincing to get him to move to the other side of the world. One of the things we were most looking forward to in Australia was getting our own place to settle down a little (don't worry we will still be doing plenty of travelling) and making it our own! Our decor has been inspired by the many luxury hotels we've stayed at during our travels and the destinations we've visited. Whilst it is important for things to look nice, the most important thing is comfort and today we're going to tell you all about Koala Mattress, the original mattress-in-a-box which is hands down the best mattress we've ever had and we loved it so much we wanted to share it with you!

Falling In Love with Tuscany: The Best Villages to Visit in Tuscany

If you've been following our travels for a while then you will know that we absolutely loooooove everything about Italy! I've been lucky enough to visit four times and Dan twice! We spent three weeks there last year during our European summer and it was during this time that I fell head over heels in love with Tuscany! I first fell in love with Tuscany when I saw the film Under the Tuscan Sun many years ago! On previous trips to Italy I had only visited Florence in this region and so this time we took a few extra days to explore as much of beautiful Tuscany as possible and it is certainly a place we plan on returning to and spending a few weeks whenever we get the opportunity! A lot of people also visit Tuscany on cruise ships when they dock in Livorno. From our past cruising experience we recommend pre-booking your Tuscany excursion with local suppliers and not the cruise ship as this enables you to disembark the ship and travel on your Livorno tour with local guides which also saves you a lot of money! We're sharing some of our favourite Tuscan villages to inspire you to live out your own Under the Tuscan Sun dreams by visiting this incredible part of the world.

We spent a week over the New Year period on beautiful North Stradbroke Island, located off Brisbane in Queensland. North Stradbroke Island, or Straddie as it is better known is the world's second largest sand island and is one of Australia's best kept secrets! We spent a wonderful week exploring Straddie's white sandy beaches which boast crystal clear waters, beautiful inland lakes and hidden waterways, scenic walks and enjoying the large numbers of native wildlife who call this island home. Straddie is easily accessible, affordable, beautiful and is the perfect place to enjoy a laid-back, relaxing holiday. Our Guide to Queensland's North Stradbroke Island

After Christmas, we packed the car to the brim with all our boards and camping supplies and headed up the coast to North Stradbroke Island. North Stradbroke Island is located off the coast of Brisbane in Moreton Bay and was about a 10 hour trip from our home in Port Macquarie. North Stradbroke Island is also known by its Aboriginal name, Minjerribah and as Straddie, by both locals and visitors alike. Coming in at second to Fraser Island, Straddie is the world’s second largest sand island. The island is one of Australian’s natural treasures and we absolutely loved every second of the week we spent on Straddie with its white sandy beaches, magnificent inland lakes, hidden waterways, wildlife, friendly locals, scenic walks and wonderful laid-back way of life.

A Romantic Anniversary Weekend at The Melbourne Parkview Hotel

We've had some pretty exotic anniversaries in the time we've been together. For our first anniversary Dan surprised me with flights to Paris and for our second anniversary we treated ourselves to an unforgettable holiday to snowy Grindelwald in Switzerland! We've only fairly recently arrived back in Australia and so when we found out that JETGO Australia had recently launched flights from our hometown of Port Macquarie to Melbourne we were sold! We spent ages trying to find a nice hotel but as it was so last minute and so close to Christmas a lot were sold out! We then found a fantastic deal on Groupon for the Melbourne Parkview Hotel which is a luxury, 4.5 Star hotel that was ideally located and offered stunning views of Melbourne's Parks and the city skyline.

A Weekend Getaway in Melbourne with JETGO Australia

At the beginning of December Dan and I headed down to Melbourne for our anniversary! We had thrown a lot of ideas around about where to do, and didn’t know where could possibly top our previous anniversary getaways of Paris and Switzerland! A few weeks before our anniversary we learned that JETGO Australia had launched direct flights from Port Macquarie to Melbourne’s Essendon Airport! I’d only visited Melbourne once on a girls weekend when I was at University and Dan had never been so we thought it was the perfect place to visit! We had a quick, easy and comfortable flight to Melbourne, had a very romantic and luxurious stay at the Melbourne Parkview Hotel and spent our weekend exploring beautiful St Kilda and the Melbourne CBD. It was a lovely weekend getaway and we can’t wait to return with JETGO to explore Melbourne further!
