In honour of World Book Day we’ve decided to share our top 5 travel books that have helped fuel our wanderlust.
On the Road by Jack Kerouac
On the road is a classic. it chronicles the travels of kerouac across the North American continent by any means necessary. He hitchhikes, jumps trains and meets some extraordinary people along the way. A must read for those ready to be inspired and see where the world takes you.
Wild by Cheryl Strayed
Wild is raw, compelling and brilliantly written. It follows Cheryl Strayed who at 26 thought she had lost everything and made the impulsive decision to walk 11,000 miles of the West Coast of America alone. You feel as if you are on the journey with her as you experience her physical and mental pain as it ultimately heals her. Wild is one of the best books I’ve ever read.
The Drifters by James A Mitchener
The drifters is a fiction published in 1971 as the story of six youths whose for one reason or another find themselves travelling across Europe. Their lives all become connected by the character George Fairbanks who is also the narrator, he is from an older generation and viewing their lives from the outside. The book is a roller-coaster of emotions as each characters story’s unfold and a truly inspiring rea that will make you want to pack a backpack and book a one way ticket to Spain.
The Lost Girls by Jennifer Baggett, Holly Corbett, & Amanda Pressner
I read The Lost Girls on the plane from Sydney to LA and could not put it down from the minute I started reading. You follow every step of the journey of these three friends who drop everything in their lives in NYC and embark on a year long backpacking adventure around the world. Funny, heartbreaking, brutally honest and impossible to put down – I love this book – it is one of the best travel inspiration reads I have come across.
Lonely Planet – A Journey Through Every Country in the World.
This is a favourite of ours & certainly a coffee table book featuring every country in the world and over 800 stunning photos it truly captures the spirit and culture of each country. Every time we flick through we are inspired to visit countries we’d never even thought about!
