Beautiful award-winning, historical and family owned Brooks View Cottage is a self catered, peaceful retreat located only a short 10 minute drive from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bath. Brooks View Cottage is charming, romantic and is the most perfect getaway in the English countryside, ideal for country walks, bird watching, relaxing and even fly-fishing. Complete with traditional wood burning stove, BBQ, elegant Victoria roll top clawed bath and luxury king sized bed result in the most romantic, beautiful retreat.
Tucking Mill Cottages are three self catering holiday cottages run by the lovely Ann & Michael, who are the perfect hosts and ensure your stay in Bath and at their cottages is one to remember. Brook’s View has an exciting history dating back to the late 1800’s, being one of the original artisan cottages built for the Somerset Canal workers in the tiny Tucking Mill hamlet.
The cottages are described as
“Bath self catering cottages with a difference.”
This statement perfectly described our stay at Brook’s View. From the moment we pulled in the drive to our private parking space and wandered the short, beautiful, well-lit path to the front door, we immediately felt at home. The cottage was already warm for us and everything to ensure our perfect stay was provided.
We immediately took the time to explore our gorgeous, spacious “home away from home” which began with the cosy, impeccably decorated living room complete with traditional wood burning stove, where I immediately put Dan to work building a fire. Kindling, logs, fire lighters and matches are all provided, along with an extra supply of wood just outside the front door. At Brook’s View we quickly discovered, they simply have thought of everything to ensure your absolute comfort and relaxation. The cosy living room has a comfortable sofa bed, lounge chairs, flat screen DVD player, iPod dock, a small library of books and a great deal of interesting magazines and brochures on Bath and the surrounding area. The cottage is beautifully decorated with a blue and white theme with bird ornaments and pictures throughout portraying the beautiful, natural environment and many varieties of birds that visit Brook’s View and the countryside. The cottage also has free Wi-Fi for its guests.
The fully equipped, country kitchen has been designed for modern use and every item of equipment you could require is provided for your use along with cleaning products, a washing machine and dishwasher. The kitchen is spacious and nice like little extras such as milk, tea, coffee and sugar are also provided.
The spotless, spacious bathroom with beautiful wood flooring is complete with a shower and elegant Victorian roll top clawed bath along with luxury toiletries and towels provided.
The elegant, romantic master bedroom is located alongside the bathroom on the first floor, with views stretching over the garden, brook and countryside. The king sized bed is dreamily comfortable and fitted with Egyptian cotton bed linen. It can also be made as a twin room if requested. The decor is beautiful and features a wonderful blue and white colour scheme.
Our favourite part of our perfect stay at Brook’s View was the picturesque private garden, babbling brook, cosy summer house, countryside, BBQ and outdoor dining area. The garden was so green with beautiful flowers despite it being November! We loved the bird feeding area and the countless colourful, chirpy birds that stopped by to visit! There are also many country walks and cycle paths on your doorstep at Brooks View. We couldn’t bear to leave the peace and relaxation of Brooks View, but for those who feel like venturing further there are two pubs within a short 15 minute walk! Brook’s View is the epitome of quiet, country relaxation. The only noises we heard were the chirping of birds and the sound of water rushing through the brook at the end of the garden. The famous Two Tunnels cycle/walk way to Bath is a major feature of life in the hamlet of Tucking Mill and is only a short 5 minute walk from the cottages.
As an Australian travelling in England, my weekend in Bath and at Brook’s View was one of my favourite weekends I’ve had whilst abroad. Brook’s View is relaxing, peaceful and even more perfect than I had imagined the idyllic English countryside to be. I cannot recommend a stay at Brook’s View any more highly and can guarantee that you will love your stay here just as much as I did.
In the case that beautiful Brook’s View is booked out, don’t worry because Ann & Michael also own and run a few other unique, wonderful cottages including Fishermen’s retreat and Tucking Mill View, both with the same luxurious decor and comfort of Brook’s View along with all the same amenities and facilities, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.
