Our Top 10 Island Hopping Destinations

I was lucky enough to grow up on the beach in Australia, a country which has some of the world’s best beaches. I’m a total water baby and my favorite place is anywhere by the water and I was lucky enough to meet Dan who despite being English, feels the same way! We both love our summer vacations and spent a few years chasing the summer around the world on our travels. During our travels through Croatia and Turkey we discovered yachting and fell in love with sailing! It is one of the most relaxing, stress-free and wonderful ways to travel and we wanted to share 10 of our top island hopping destinations around the world… make sure you let us know yours too!

1. Croatia

For years Croatia has been one of the top destinations on my bucket list and has recently boomed & has truly become a very popular tourist destination. With sapphire waters, unspoiled beaches, secluded coves and bays, countless historical sites to visit and breathtaking natural beauty it is the epitome of paradise for us! Plus it is the home of Game of Thrones so who wouldn’t want to visit?!

Being an Aussie, the Greek Islands have forever seemed so far away, exotic and incredibly beautiful. Greece had over 6000 islands that are scattered all across the Mediterranean. When I think of the Greek Islands I imagine never ending streets of whitewashed houses, crystal clear azure waters, colourful fishing boats, family run tavernas, Santorini sunsets and days upon days of hopping from island to island, along with soaking up thousands of years of history (and sunshine).

Whilst we LOVE summer, sandy beaches, sunshine & tropical climates, the Scottish Islands have always appealed to both of us. The Isle of Skye, Shetland Islands, Orkney Islands and Isle of Arran are just a few of the 700 islands off the coast of Scotland which are known to have some of Europe’s most rugged and beautiful rugged landscapes. We love the outdoors and hiking, and Scotland’s island have some of the best with rocky coastlines, secluded beaches, steep mountains and diverse wildlife, they look breathtaking and we can’t wait to visit and explore!

When I graduated from University, myself and three girlfriends went on a P&O South Pacific Cruise which visited various ports in Vanuatu and New Calendonia. The South Pacific islands have the friendliest people, the bluest water with the softest sand and palm trees for miles. I loved cruising because we woke up docked at sea overlooking a new island to explore every single day before returning to the luxury of our ship! It really was paradise!

5. Caribbean

With thousands of islands and 20-30 island nations, you are left with no shortage of choices to explore the Caribbean. Think magical white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, endless sunshine, swaying palm trees, jungles, rainforests and rum and I guarantee you’ll be in heaven!

6. Philippines

The Philippines are the world’s second largest archipelago & without doubt an island hoppers paradise! Boasting more than 7000 islands you’ll find jungles, mountains, aquamarine waters and untouched coral reef. Once you escape the cities it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll be able to find your very own spot of secluded paradise.

7. Turkey

Turkey has always been on my radar as I feel the need to visit Gallipoli & pay my respects to the ANZAC’s. We recently discovered the beauty of the Turkish coastline & its islands and have an incredible urge to return and explore further one day! Turkey’s extensive coastline is known as the Turquoise Coast and just from the name you can just imagine it’s beauty…

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living thing on the planet & you can even see it from space! It is comprised of thousands of beautiful coral reefs & hundreds of tropical islands. There are countless species of colourful fish, dolphins, whales, star fish, turtles and more that you can swim amongst on whilst exploring the startlingly colourful reef & all it its inhabitants. With limitless activities and beautiful luxurious island resorts, it is absolute paradise!

9. Maldives

The Maldives are synonymous with luxury and romance and are the ultimate tropical island paradise. I’ve been obsessing over them lately and all it takes is a quick #maldives search on Instagram to understand why! The Maldives are known for their enticing crystal clear blue waters, white sandy beaches, endless species of fish and beautiful colourful coral reefs. Does life really get much better than sleeping in your own over-water bungalow? We are going to the Maldives for our honeymoon and cannot wait to share the beauty of this amazing country!

10. Indonesia

Last but not least is Indonesia with over 17,000 islands! Most people think of Indonesia and think it’s just Bali – well it’s so much more than touristy Bali! Indonesia is bursting with culture, history, rain forests, deserted islands, volcanoes, the whitest of sand beaches and sunshine all year round.
