The Headland Hotel is iconic in Cornwall. A timeless, Victorian hotel that is set upon the cliffside overlooking Fistral Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to its incredible location, the hotel is luxurious and still retains many of its original features. It is a stylish, elegant hotel that has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere which we immediately fell in love with.
The hotel was first opened in June 1900 and was built with the sole purpose of creating the finest hotel in South West England. In addition to being the finest hotel in SW England, in its time it has seen visits from the Royal Family, served as a RAF hospital in WW2 and had many movies filmed at the hotel including the famous Roald Dahl’s “The Witches”.
The lounge on our floor housed this incredible model of the hotel, which a regular guest of the hotel had created as a gift to the hotel and its staff. It is a true testament to the perfect combination of service, location, luxury, relaxation and comfort that this wonderful hotel provides for all its guests.
The hotel offers a number of rooms and suites which include: Best Rooms & Suites, Splendid Rooms & Suites, Fistral View Rooms & Suites, Ocean View Rooms, Coastal View Rooms and Suites and Courtyard Rooms. All rooms are furnished and decorated to the highest level and all but Courtyard Rooms enjoy stunning views of the Ocean.
We were lucky enough to be in an Ocean View Room which boasted breathtaking views over the Atlantic Ocean. The Ocean View rooms are either decorated in a Victorian, traditional theme or a modern, contemporary style. Our room was traditionally themed and was luxurious, spacious and comfortable. Everything is included that you could need from luxurious toiletries, soft, fluffy towels and bathrobes, tea and coffee making facilities, turn down service, around the clock room service, TV and the most spectacular views. The room has a lovely coffee table and chairs which look out over the breathaking view and we sat there to watch the stunning sunset. Our bed was soft and incredibly comfortable, and it was wonderful to fall asleep listening to the sounds of the sea. We both had one of the best nights sleeps we could remember!
Breakfast is served in the Restaurant and is a delicious buffet with every breakfast item you could wish for! We chose the same table that we had the night before at dinner, which gave us incredible views over Fistral Beach and had a relaxed, leisurely breakfast enjoying the views and the food. The breakfast included everything you need to create a full Cornish breakfast including cooked items, pastries, breads, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, juice and tea and coffee. The staff were friendly and the food was regularly replaced and replenished to ensure freshness and availability for all diners.
Dan was most happy with the full spread of ingredients for an English breakfast and I was impressed by the selection of cereals, toppings and fresh fruit. It is great to experience a hotel that offers its guests both healthy and ‘treat’ options, ensuring there is something for everyone!
I was treated to a Spa experience in the Headland Hotel’s Spa, which is the first ‘Five Bubble’ rated spa in Cornwall. I can say without a doubt, they are worthy of every single of those ‘Five Bubbles’! The staff at the Headland Spa focus on creating the perfect client Spa journey which has 3 main elements; Welcoming, Relaxing and Indulgent. For me, the staff went above and beyond to ensure that they exceeded each of the 3 elements.
My lovely therapist Jodie took me through a comprehensive treatment that involved a body scrub, massage, head massage and facial. Jodie utilised AFYNA products, a modern organic skincare range which left me feeling hydrated, smooth, radiant and refreshed! Through the 75 minute treatment my skin was scrubbed, massaged and I was truly able to relax and rejuvenate with the calming, peaceful background music helping me to switch off and relax! The Spa is 5 Star without a doubt, the facilities are incredible, everything is spotless, the products are luxurious and the staff fantastic.
In addition the Headland Spa has VIP suites, couples treatment rooms, Jacuzzi, indoor pool, saunas, Spa Lounge, fully equipped gym and relaxation room. Following my treatment, Dan and I took some time to relax in the Spa Lounge before heading off for lunch, and I literally felt like I floated out of the Spa. It has been a long time since I’ve felt that refreshed and relaxed!
In addition to the indoor pool and Spa facilities the hotel has a large outdoor pool for use by its guests, again offering beautiful sea views from the pool! The hotel also has tennis courts, 9 hole pitch & putt course and putting green.
The Restaurant boasts breathtaking views over Fistral Beach and the Atlantic Ocean serves incredible, fresh, perfectly cooked food. We had a wonderful, relaxing evening enjoying fine food, wine and incredible views. The dress code is casual (but you can still dress up, as we did) & it is the perfect venue to dine in relaxed elegance.
We were very impressed with the service throughout of entire evening. Our wait staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. Our meals all came out in excellent time, with a little break between each course to relax, enjoy the view and our wine. The food was absolutely fantastic, cooked to perfection, presented beautifully and used the freshest of produce and ingredients. I highly recommend dining at The Restaurant at The Headland Hotel whether you are staying at the hotel or visiting Newquay. The combination of incredible food and breathtaking, uninterrupted views ensures the perfect dining experience.

The Headland Hotel has the best and most enviable location in all of Newquay. The grounds are beautiful, and there is countless places to relax and enjoy the hotel both inside and out! The hotel is enormous and even in full capacity there is enough seating and space that it would never feel crowded and every guest would have their own space and privacy.
The views from the hotel are priceless and The Headland Hotel is by far one of our favourite places we have stayed in all our travels.
Our stay at The Headland Hotel was incredible, it is the kind of place a lot of people dream of visiting in their lifetime! The hotel is luxurious and elegant and we felt relaxed and comfortable from the moment we arrived. There is nothing we would change about the hotel. The staff were fantastic, the food in the restaurant was divine and our room was comfortable, luxurious and the views were spectacular. I would without a doubt recommend a stay at The Headland Hotel to anyone visiting Newquay or Cornwall and we hope to be back one day!
