We recently visited Salisbury on our way to Cornwall and spent an evening at the elegant Mercure White Hart Hotel. The hotel is ideally located in the centre of the city and is only a five minute walk from the Salisbury Cathedral. It was a perfect place to stay to begin our holiday!
The Mercure is a beautiful hotel. This Georgian building dates back to the 17th Century and it truly stands out as one of the most beautiful hotels and buildings in Salisbury. I loved the elegance of the hotel and that they had retained many of the beautiful features of the building whilst still offering all the modern conveniences and amenities luxury travellers want! The hotel also has a restaurant, Squires Restaurant which is known for its excellent, traditional British cuisine and a bar, Spires Bar & Lounge. The bar and lounge are warmly, traditionally and elegantly decorated and in winter would be even more cosy & warm with each area having a beautiful log fire place! There is also the option of al fresco dining in the courtyard to the rear of the hotel, which would be wonderful on a nice, sunny day!
The hotel has 68 guest rooms and we had a Privilege Room which was warmly and elegantly decorated, contained beautiful large Georgian windows, a TV, free wifi, minibar with free soft drinks & water, a Nespresso machine, telephone, newspaper and an incredibly soft, comfortable bed. The ensuite bathroom was modern, extremely clean and soft, fluffy towels and luxury toiletries were provided for our stay. Our room was spacious, very comfortable and everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable was provided for us.
The staff at the hotel were all friendly, warm, professional and very helpful throughout our entire stay. Each member of staff we encountered from reception, housekeeping and in the restaurant could not have been more polite and friendly. The service was top notch and was very impressive and exceeded what we would expect of a top hotel!
Both of us LOVE breakfast, it is probably our favourite meal of the day. The breakfast at the Mercure White Hart Hotel gave us an excellent start to our day. The buffet breakfast was extensive and everything was freshly cooked, well presented and delicious! The breakfast included all elements of a full English breakfast in addition to fresh fruit, juice, yoghurt, toast, breads, pastries, cereals, cheese and cold meats, along with tea and coffee. We were both very happy as Dan would eat a full English breakfast every day if possible (and this was one of the best) whilst I prefer continental with fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal and a few naughty pastries!
Ideally located in the centre of the city, the hotel is only a stepping stone away from the shopping & entertainment district and less then a five minute walk from the beautiful, famous Salisbury Cathedral. Salisbury is a beautiful city, one I wish I had more time to explore. Beautiful cobble stoned streets are lined with charming, historic buildings and the city has a beautiful river that flows through the town centre. Salisbury is also only 8 miles from the UNESCO World Heritage listed site of Stonehenge. I loved wandering the streets of the Salisbury stopping in boutique shops, riverside bars and quirky cafes, and do hope we get a chance to come back and visit this gorgeous town again!
We loved our stay at the Mercure. It had the perfect location, the hotel was comfortable and elegant and the staff could not have been more friendly and went out of their way at all times to ensure out stay was excellent. I highly recommend them for anyone visiting Salisbury.
