We’ve just returned home from an incredible trip to Scotland, my final country in the UK to visit. Our first stop was the Scottish capital, Edinburgh where we stayed at the iconic, luxurious G&V Royal Mile Hotel. The G&V Royal Mile Hotel is wonderfully located in this gorgeous city and has the incredible accolade of being the only five-star hotel on the historic Royal Mile, the most iconic street in Edinburgh. The G&V in addition to its ideal location boasts stylish rooms, beautiful city views and impeccable service. The G&V is a luxurious, boutique hotel at its best and showcases beautiful, iconic and stylish design characterised by the local, rich Scottish heritage and culture.
The G&V Royal Mile Hotel is located on the historic Royal Mile in the heart of beautiful Edinburgh, the heart of Scotland. We caught the airport bus from the airport to the city and were only a short few minute walk to the hotel which we found easily. We were greeted by friendly doormen in kilts which made it a truly Scottish experience from the moment we arrived! The receptionists were lovely and helpful allowing us to check in early and leave our bags with them whilst we set out exploring the city.
The hotel truly could not have been more perfectly located in Edinburgh. Whilst being set right in the heart of the Old Town it was also minutes from the New Town. We only had a fairly short 24 hours to explore as much of Edinburgh as we could and the perfect location of the G&V Royal Mile allowed us to do so. We were only a few moments from the Scottish Whisky Experience and just a few minutes walk to the Edinburgh Castle. We also were only a fifteen minute walk down the beautiful, historic Royal Mile to the base of Arthurs Seat which we hiked up in the afternoon to take in the beautiful, panoramic views of Edinburgh which was recommended to us by the lovely reception team at the hotel.
There are 136 unqiue and stylish rooms and suites in the G&V Royal Mile Hotel. We were staying in a Superior Room located on the 5th Floor of the hotel. We instantly fell in love with our beautiful, stylish and modern room which was one of the most stylish hotels rooms we’ve ever had the pleasure to experience in our travels. Our room was welcoming, relaxing and beautiful. We loved the inviting tones, bespoke feature wall which portrayed the city streets below, comfortable, high-quality furniture and luxurious interiors, curtains, bedding and fabrics. The room was bold, stylish, relaxing, functional and welcoming and we loved every single detail.
We were blown away by the stunning views from our room which overlooked the cityscape below and stretched across the Royal Mile, the beautiful St Giles’ Cathedral and all the way to Arthurs Seat in the distance.
Our luxurious king sized bed was dreamily comfortable and we slept wonderfully on the soft, luxurious linens. We loved the table with two bespoke chairs where we spent a few hours working before bed. The free Wi-Fi was fast and stayed connected perfectly during our stay, which is something we really appreciate in a top hotel.
In addition to the stylish desig,n the room also contained every modern appliance you could want or need for your stay including a Nespresso machine and tea making facilities, mini-bar, a LCD TV, an i-Pod dock and in room temperature control for heating and air-conditioning. We also appreciated the free in room mineral water, complimentary newspaper in the morning and the turn-down service.
It was also a lovely surprise to come back from our hike up Arthurs Seat to this lovely afternoon tea treat!
Our bathroom was modern, spacious and a delight to both look at and use! The spacious walk in shower was beautifully tiled and had a powerful, hot rainfall shower which was wonderful to use after a big day exploring Edinburgh. We loved the luxurious toiletries, soft, fluffy towels and super luxe, cosy black bathrobes!
The hotel also had a gym and an urban spa retreat for those wishing to be pampered and relax during their stay.
The perfect position of the hotel on the corner of the Royal Mile and George IV Bridge means that the bar is always buzzing! The bar area is vibrant and colourful and was full of people enjoying both coffee and cocktails in the cosmopolitan bar throughout our stay.
G&V’s award-winning restaurant Cucina is one of Edinburgh’s most popular restaurants and hottest dining spots. Cucina’s menu is inspired by classic Italian cuisine and is where you will discover authentic, seasonal, modern dishes created using the finest ingredients and prepared with passion.
Breakfast is also served in Cucina, which is located on the mezzanine level of the hotel. We were up very early for breakfast as we had a big day of driving ahead of us as we headed up North into the Highlands! I loved that the hotel has a check out time of 12pm, which is the latest of anywhere we’ve ever stayed and we would have loved to make full use of that but only had limited time in Scotland so we had to make the most of it! We were greeted by the friendly staff the moment we stepped out of the lift and ushered to a table overlooking the lovely courtyard. Our friendly waiter took our tea and coffee orders and took the time to explain the menu to us. Breakfast involved a continental breakfast which was served in a buffet style and a menu where you were able to choose a hot dish to be cooked to order. The buffet was filled with fresh fruit, salads, cheese, charcuterie meats, smoked salmon, fresh juices, cereals, yoghurt, freshly baked pastries and a delicious range of cakes! Dan being a creature of habit opted for the full English Breakfast for his hot item and I chose the Eggs Benedict. Our meals came out really quickly, within about 10 minutes and were fresh, piping hot and absolutely delicious! Our poached eggs were poached to perfection and each aspect of the dish was fresh and cooked wonderfully. We really loved the healthy spin and the beautiful presentation of Dan’s English Breakfast as well, which got a big tick of approval from us foodies!
We retired to our room after breakfast to relax and enjoy both our room and the gorgeous views for a bit longer before we had to leave. We had an incredible stay at the G&V Royal Mile Hotel, the hotel was ideally located and I truly couldn’t think of a better located hotel to stay at in Edinburgh. The service we received was top notch and that which you would expect of a top five star hotel but with an added friendliness and warmth from every member of staff we interacted with during our stay. In addition to the location and service, our favourite part of our stay was our beautiful, stylish room. It was comfortable, relaxing, beautifully styled and a wonderful oasis to retreat to after a big day of city sightseeing!
Edinburgh was a city that won our hearts very quickly and our stay at the G&V Royal Mile played a big part in that. If you are planning a visit to this beautiful city and are looking for an ideally located, luxurious and stylish stay then we can’t more highly recommend the G&V Royal Mile Hotel.
