We fell in love with the Amalfi Coast when we visited in 2014 and so when we had the chance to return recently we jumped at the opportunity! Every town in the region is unique and beautiful and whilst you could spend months exploring all the beautiful places along the coast many people only manage to visit for a few days and so in order to maximise your time in the region it is essential to know how to get around the coast. There’s plenty of options and we’ve used most of them and so here’s our guide of how to get around the Amalfi Coast!
SITA BUSES
The most affordable way to get around the Amalfi Coast is by using the public SITA buses. The SITA buses run regularly and you can simply purchase tickets either from the driver or from a staff member that will be selling tickets close to the buses! The buses run very regularly but the journey time is very slow as the roads are extremely windy and two buses meeting on the road can often mean that it can add an extra 10-15 minutes onto your journey as they try to slowly get past each other. The drivers are very skillful and the few times we used them during our time on the coast we were impressed with their excellent driving skills!
Just a word of warning if it rains as we caught the bus from Amalfi to Positano one morning with all our luggage when the weather was dreadful and our bags got very wet under the bus in the luggage storage compartment which we assumed would be water resistant. The SITA bus system is however an excellent, reliable and affordable way to move around the coast.
PRIVATE TRANSFERS
We only had limited time on the Amalfi Coast and so wanted to make the most of our time in the beautiful region. We booked a number of tours and transfers with Naples Airport Transfers including our Positano to Naples transfer, so that we could ensure we made our ferry to Ischia on time! There’s an endless number of tour and transfer companies in the region but we were very pleased with the excellent, reliable service we received from Naples Airport Transfers. The drivers were always on time, the cars clean and luxurious and our drivers were very professional and very safe! If you have limited time, are looking for a luxurious way to explore the Amalfi Coast or are looking to book a tour or transfer in the region then we highly recommend booking a transfer with Naples Airport Transfers and would not just recommend them but would certainly use them again when we return to the beautiful Amalfi Coast.
FERRIES
Ferries are another popular way to see the Amalfi Coast and there are a number of ferry companies which link Sorrento with the Amalfi Coast towns of Positano and Amalfi. Many visitors to the Amalfi Coast also opt for a trip to the Isle of Capri which can be reached by ferry. During the summer season the ferries run very regularly but outside of the season there are limited services so be sure to research before you go if you have a strict schedule! The Amalfi Coast is a very stunning region and seeing it from the water is a great way to take the view in!
CAR OR SCOOTER HIRE
The roads on the Amalfi Coast are like none other as they twist and turn around enormous cliffs. Unless you are a very confident driver we’d recommend you avoid this option. Whilst it could be an incredible experience, the roads are crazy, filled with an endless number of buses and scooters and we saw a lot of really erratic, unsafe drivers which literally made my heart stop a few times! However if you are a confident, experienced driver (with nerves of steel) then you’ll certainly have an amazing experience with the freedom to make your own plans and explore as much of the beautiful region as you want!
Whichever method of travel you choose we guarantee you’ll absolutely love the Amalfi Coast. It is one of our favourite places in the world and a destination that we’ll certainly return to. On this trip we really enjoyed our private tours and transfers with Naples Airport Transfers who made getting around the coast hassle free, very relaxing and allowed us to maximise our time in each destination!
