Exclusively located at the top of the Spanish Steps in Rome is Il Palazzetto, a luxurious boutique hotel located in a beautiful 16th century building! Il Palazzetto was established by Roberto E. Wirth, President and Managing Director of the nearby Hotel Hassler and is one of Rome’s best kept secrets. Our stay at Il Palazzetto was incredible and truly felt like our own private residence in one of the most sought after locations in Rome. Our stay at Il Palazzetto was luxurious, relaxing and magical, it is without a doubt one of the most majestic boutique hotels that we’ve had the pleasure to enjoy during our travels.
Il Palazzetto is a charming 16th century residence located at the top of the Spanish Steps overlooking the famous Steps and is located in the heart of Rome’s City Centre. It’s location means it is also a short walking distance to Rome’s most popular sites including the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Villa Borghese, Piazza del Popolo and the Vatican.
Il Palazzetto was created by Roberto E. Wirth, President and Managing Director of the nearby Hotel Hassler and is one of the most beautiful, luxurious and sought after boutique hotels and private spaces in all of Rome. Il Palazetto has an incredible history dating back to the 1500s when it was the retreat of a noble Roman family who preferred to reside here instead of at their historical palace in Piazza Mignanelli. This was due to the uniqueness and prestige of the incredible historical building. In 1999, Roberto E. Wirth, President and Managing Director of the Hotel Hassler, acquired Il Palazzetto with the intention of expanding the brand name of the historical hotel located only moments away. Roberto Wirth decided to combine his excellent hospitality skills with his love of good wine and voila, created Il Palazzetto.
Il Palazzetto has four luxurious, elegantly furnished boutique hotel rooms with three overlooking the Spanish Steps and one overlooking Vicolo del Bottino. Il Palazzetto also had a Wine Bar and two panoramic terraces which overlook the Spanish Steps and the beautiful surrounds of the heart of Rome. The terraces and exclusive private event spaces can also be booked for parties, dinners, business meetings and other events and celebrations in what would be a very memorable location.
* The majority of the Spanish Steps were closed for restoration during our recent visit and so the two above photos are from a previous visit *
We were in awe of our gorgeous room the moment we saw it. We loved its spaciousness, the high ceilings, the simple yet elegant and tasteful beige and cream hues with accents of velvet and satin. All the furnishings and decor were of the highest quality and the room oozed both luxury and comfort. After a 12 hour travel day from Ischia to Rome I almost cried with happiness when I saw how plump and soft our king sized bed with luxurious linens was! Our room also offered beautiful views out over the Spanish Steps and despite a lot of the steps currently being closed we still had ample people watching opportunities! As well as being the epitome of elegance and luxury our room was also equipped with all the modern comforts and appliances including a plasma screen TV, minibar, air conditioning and high speed wireless internet! We loved our gorgeous, luxurious marble bathroom which had a separate bathtub and shower along with exclusive toiletries and soft, fluffy towels and bathrobes! Our room was truly an elegant oasis of relaxation and comfort to return to after busy sightseeing around Rome!
Breakfast is served in the Hassler Roma which is only a short stroll across the top of the Spanish Steps. We loved the fresh air and short stroll which helped wake us up before we sat down for breakfast. Breakfast at the Hassler is an extraordinary affair with one of the best buffet breakfasts we’ve had in all our travels (and there’s been a lot)! The buffet includes freshly cooked pastries, cakes, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, cheese, cold meats, hot breakfast items and so much more! It is also possible to order additional hot breakfast items to be cooked to order. The wait staff were very attentive, polite and professional and ensured that both the guests were looked after and the buffet was replenished very regularly!
In addition to having breakfast at the Hassler Roma, guests at Il Palazzetto are welcome to use all of the facilities at the hotel and we were certainly made to feel welcome every time we stepped through the front doors of the Hassler. Guests have access to the restaurants and bars of the Hassler as well as the Concierge services, SPA, wellness and fitness centre and the incredible panoramic guest terrace on the 7th floor of the hotel. We are convinced that the terrace showcases the best views in all of Rome! The Hassler is a beautiful hotel and we were lucky enough to be taken on a guided tour of the hotel, its dining areas including the beautiful panoramic Michelin starred restaurant, Imàgo and a few of its beautiful rooms. It is a hotel that is now certainly on our luxury bucket list to stay at when we return to Rome one day.
We had such a brilliant stay at beautiful Il Palazzetto in Rome. It is a truly beautiful, luxurious and relaxing boutique hotel in an incredible, highly sought after location in Rome. Every aspect of our stay was perfect and we even loved strolling across the top of the Spanish Steps to breakfast at the Hassler Roma each morning. We loved everything about Il Palazzetto and would return in a heartbeat and the friendly, professional, high quality service we received at both Il Palazzetto and the Hotel Hassler means we would also highly recommend the Hassler Roma to anyone looking for an incredible luxury hotel in the heart of Rome.
