During our time on the Amalfi Coast we booked a night at Villa Lara in Amalfi. Amalfi is wonderfully located on the Amalfi Coast and is a beautiful town that is also a great base to explore the rest of the coast from. Villa Lara was built in the 1800s and is surrounded by lemon groves, trees and beautiful, bright flowers. We loved that its location was only a few minutes from the centre of Amalfi and the sea but its location perched on a cliff meant it overlooked all of Amalfi with stunning, panoramic views. It also meant that we could enjoy beautiful Amalfi but then escape the crowds to our oasis of tranquillity in our privileged spot overlooking all of the town.
Villa Lara is located only a short 5 minute walk uphill from Amalfi’s port and bus station. We had no problem finding it and once we were buzzed through the main gate we took the elevator up to Villa Lara. The elevator itself is incredible as it is built entirely into the rock! In addition to the elevator there is also a panoramic staircase which is well worth taking at least once during your visit so that you can admire the beautiful lemon groves and bright flowers which surround Villa Lara.
As soon as we stepped out of the elevator we were able to take in the incredible panoramic views from Villa Lara. Villa Lara has an incredibly privileged location as it overlooks the main town from a height of 60 metres! The view is like no other and we’re convinced it is the best view in all of Amalfi!
Despite arriving early and before check in time we were very warmly welcomed and lucky enough to be able to check into our room straight away! We’d booked a double room and were pleasantly surprised when we were shown to our room. Each room and suite in Villa Lara has a different colour scheme and we loved the turquoise tiles and the ancient high vaulted ceilings. The room was furnished with antique furniture that was comfortable and practical and our bed was wonderfully soft. In addition we had an air conditioning unit which would be a lifesaver in summer, a hairdryer, minibar, and TV along with free highspeed wireless internet. Our ensuite bathroom was spotlessly clean and we had an excellent hydromassage shower and plenty of soft, fluffy towels were provided.
One of the favourite parts of our stay in beautiful Villa Lara was the views from our panoramic terrace. Villa Lara’s privileged location, perched high on a cliff ensured we had the most breaktaking views of the entire ancient marine republic of Amalfi all the way down to the seaside and also to the majestic cliffs that surround Amalfi. The views were breathtaking and we spent many hours relaxing on our terrace enjoying the views, which we truly think are the best views in all of Amalfi!
Breakfast is usually served on the panoramic terrace which offers the opportunity to dine and enjoy the stunning views of Amalfi and the sea below. During our visit the weather was unfortunately not fantastic so we dined inside in the lovely, cosy lounge and dining room where we still were able to enjoy the fantastic views through the large windows. Breakfast is a buffet with cereals, fruit, yoghurt, croissants, toast, jams, orange juice and tea and coffee on offer.
Amalfi is a wonderful little town on the Amalfi Coast and is a great choice of town to stay in! It’s location on the coast makes it very easy to visit other parts of the region either by bus, car or boat. This small town once was a maritime superpower with a population of more than 70,000 but today is a gorgeous small pastel coloured town with a beach, sun-drenched piazzas, shopping and a beautiful duomo. The population swells during summer and the streets are filled with day trippers but come late afternoon and night the town becomes peaceful and beautiful to stroll around once the day trippers leave. It is a beautiful place on the Amalfi Coast and certainly one we recommend visiting.
We had such a lovely stay at Villa Lara and were sad that we’d only booked for one night. Villa Lara is a wonderful oasis in Amalfi and is the perfect place to return for peace, comfort and relaxation after exploring the beautiful Amalfi Coast. Their location is unbeatable as they offer views of all of Amalfi, the mountains and sea along with a peaceful location that is only a few minutes away from the bustling city centre. Lucca and Luigi and the other staff members we came across during our stay were genuinely warm, welcoming, friendly and helpful and made Villa Lara feel like our home away from home in Amalfi. The combination of reasonable prices, a perfect location and the peace, quiet and comfort made us extremely happy with our choice to book our stay in Amalfi at Villa Lara. We’d certainly recommend beautiful Villa Lara for anyone visiting Amalfi and would love to return one day.
