We only had two short nights in Athens on our recent visit and so wanted a hotel that was luxurious as well as being centrally located to all the main sites. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice of hotel, the Herodion Hotel which was ideally located just a few steps from the Acropolis and Plaka and adjacent to the new Acropolis Museum in the very heart of Athens historic centre. The Herodion Hotel is a stylish, first class hotel with a contemporary look that contrasts to its ancient and historic environment. The hotel has what we believe to be the best views of the Acropolis from its roof top and the warm hospitality and modern facilities you’d expect of a top hotel.
[spacer height=”10px”]We arrived quite late in the afternoon after our ferry from Mykonos where we’d spent a few days living it up in luxury at Tharroe of Mykonos. We were warmly welcomed the moment we arrived and promptly checked in before being shown to our room. We were immediately impressed by the warm, stylish lobby and bar which entices travelers to relax and enjoy a drink after a long day of travelling or sightseeing. Our driver had no problem finding the hotel from the ferry port and we found the neighbourhood to be ideally located in order to see all that Athens had to offer.
The hotel has 86 guest rooms and four mini suites which are all tastefully and stylishly furnished, ensuring that the comfort and needs of every guest have been met. Every room is equipped with all the modern conveniences and amenities you’d expect of a top hotel including a coffee maker, TV, air conditioning, high speed wireless internet and a luxurious marble bathroom with plush robes, towels and indulgent toiletries.
We were staying in a Superior Double Room which had the benefit of a private balcony and breathtaking views of the Acropolis from both our room and balcony! Our room was stylish with wooden floors and stylish decor and one of the most comfortable beds we’ve slept in during our travels! All rooms at the hotel have new beds and anatomic mattresses with the quality signature of COCO-MAT which is the guarantee of comfort and perfect rest.
Breakfast is served each morning in the hotel’s contemporary Restaurant, which specialises in Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. Breakfast is a hearty American Buffet Style Breakfast with a wide selection of hot and cold breakfast items, all fresh and regularly replenished by the attentive staff. It was the perfect way to fuel our bodies for a big day of sightseeing around Athens!
One of our favourite services that the Herodion Hotel offered was its beautiful room garden with sun loungers and two hot tubs which boast incredible views over the Acropolis. The rooftop also has a calming olive tree garden which has the sound of water fountains making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Athens whilst soaking up the sunshine (and history)! It was also a very magical experience to see the Acropolis illuminated at night from the roof garden and from POINT a on the roof terrace, it was a wonderful sight that we were privileged to enjoy in comfort.
On our final night at the hotel we enjoyed a magnificent dinner at POINT a, the elegant roof top bar and restaurant which is located on the 5th floor of the Herodion Hotel. The roof top boasts breathtaking views of the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum and we were able to watch a magical sunset over the Acropolis. POINT a has without a doubt, one of the best, uninterrupted views of the Acropolis.
The restaurant is incredibly sophisticated and stylish yet offers a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. Set on a wooden deck floor with stylish furniture and breathtaking views we guarantee you will want to spend your entire night up here! POINT a offers an extensive menu of unique and delicious cocktails and serves delicious Mediterranean cuisine with traditional Greek influences. As they so eloquently describe: “POINT a is more than a restaurant, it is an experience not to be missed” and we can truly attest to that!
We had an incredible three course meal at POINT a and can’t wait to share more details about their eclectic, mouthwatering-ly good menu and each delicious course next on the blog!
On our final morning we had a very early start as our flight to Australia was departing Athens at 7am and we were picked up at the hotel just after 3am by our trusty hoppa transfer. Whenever we travel, we always book our airport transfers with hoppa who have proven to always be reliable, trustworthy and on time. We have used hoppa more than 10 times in our travels now and every time they have provided us with excellent service, ensuring our journey is always relaxing and stress free.
Athens was the final stop of not just our European adventures but also our two and a half years living in the Northern Hemisphere. I couldn’t think of a more perfect place to have spent our final days in Europe and the staff at the Herodion Hotel went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. The hotel is modern, comfortable and stylish and is located ideally to explore all Athens has to offer in addition to its incredible views of the Acropolis. We’d return to both Athens and the Herodion Hotel in a heartbeat and until then have warm memories of our time there.
