Today was one of those rare and lovely days where we woke up with absolutely no plans at all. It was such a beautiful winter’s day with the sun shining and the temperature rising to the high 20’s! Dan and I packed our beach towels and a book each and headed to Lighthouse Beach, one of our favourite beaches in our hometown of Port Macquarie. We parked our car at Tacking Point Lighthouse and decided that rather than head down to Lighthouse Beach, we would check out beautiful Little Bay, which is situated north of the Lighthouse.
We’d never ventured down to Little Bay in all our time living here and I am so glad we made today the day to do so! Little Bay is a stunning bay, with sandstone and volcanic rock formations, beautiful rock pools and the most crystal clear water! I wish we’d packed our swimmers because the water temperature was amazing and we had a great morning climbing over the rocks, checking out the rock pools, spotting whales off the shore and reading our books on the beach. The beach was lovely and quiet with only a few other people strolling past on the coastal walk during our time there, so we were lucky enough to have it to ourselves most of the day!
The Port Macquarie region has no shortage of stunning beaches and I am so glad we finally made the effort to explore beautiful Little Bay! For locals and visitors to the region, it is a photographers paradise with the bay, rock formations and of course incredible view of the iconic Tacking Point Lighthouse.
After two English winters, I am still pinching myself that this is winter in Australia! Days like this really make me realise just how lucky we are to live in such an amazing place and how we really need to make more of our beautiful surroundings every chance we get.
