Saalbach is a charming ski village in the Austrian Alps with traditional buildings and a river running through it. It is a stunning winter wonderland that boasts over 270 kilometres of ski slopes! I visited Saalbach with one of my closest friends who is from Salzburg. Having only ever skiied in Australia and New Zealand, I was quite the rookie and whilst I think I spent more time crashed out in the snow I still loved every bit of my first ever European Ski holiday in beautiful Austria!
The village of Saalbach is honestly like a postcard it is so beautiful and I loved strolling around exploring! I think it is safe so say that most Australians go a little crazy in the snow – we honestly just love it so much! I would love to live through a snowy winter somewhere and Dan and I have discussed moving to Canada for a year one day someday, so you never know! Snow is just so magical!
Once Mesi had shown me around, it was time to hit the slopes!
Saalbach looked so cute from the mountains…
How stunning are these views of the Alps! I always thought my ‘happy place’ was the beach, however the more mountain destinations I visit, the more I fall in love with them. From Grindelwald in the Swiss Alps, to Lake Bled in Slovenia, New Zealand, Snowdonia in Wales and so many more… I just adore the mountains and alps, especially when they are covered in snow!
I love villages that you can ski in-ski out! It really adds to the magic of a snow holiday. While my skiing skills still leave a lot to be desired and I’ve got a long way to go, I still absolutely love skiing and being in the snow. Since my visit to Saalbach, the region has had a huge addition of ski lifts and is now one of the biggest ski areas in Austria and as Mesi lives so close I am sure we will be lucky enough to get back one day!
