Whilst campervanning around New Zealand’s South Island, we spent a day skiing the Remarkables in Queenstown. I hadn’t skiied for about 10 years and it was Dan’s first time on the slopes and he absolutely nailed snowboarding (and I managed to make it down without stacking too bad)! We had such a fun time at the snow and next time want to book a full week in either Queenstown or Wanaka so we can spend the whole time skiing and snowboarding.
We took our trusty JUCY campervan up the windy road to the slopes! We had to put our ski chains on about half way up so it was a very slow trip but worth it for the amazing scenery! I can’t say I was too helpful with the snow chains, but Dan did a great job!
We were pretty happy to have reached the top because anyone who has visited the Remarkables will know that the road is super windy and dodgy.
We paid for our lift passes and equipment which were approximately $150 each and once we were fitted it was time to hit the slopes!
It snowed lightly all day and the slopes were in great condition. Dan being a surfer, picked up snowboarding really quickly and did a great job! I’ve skiied a few times in the past in Australia, New Zealand and Austria, but it had been ten years since my last time. I’m a fairly average skiier but was happy to still have the basics after such a long break! After a day at the snow we are itching to book more snow holidays!
After a big day of skiing and snowboarding we then dropped our skiis and snowboard back and headed to our campervan to make hot chocolates and lunch before driving back to Queenstown. The road conditions were a lot better on the way down as most of the ice and snow on the road had turned to slush so it wasn’t slippery anymore.
We had a lovely day skiing the Remarkables and will definitely return when we come back to Queenstown on future holidays! Queenstown is one of my favourite places in the world, it is just so beautiful and there is so much to do. I know it will be a regular holiday destination for us over the years.
