On our recent trip to New Zealand, we made an impromptu stopover at Tekapo Hot Springs. We’d already stopped at Lake Tekapo on our way south but couldn’t help stopping again on our return. Lake Tekapo is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and its stunning turquoise colour will leave you dreaming of it for years to come! The pools at Tekapo Hot Springs are named and shaped after the three main lakes of the Mackenzie Region: Ohau, Pukaki and Tekapo. It was the perfect way to break up our drive and relax whilst soaking in the stunning scenery around us.
For $33 each we spent a few hours soaking in the multiple hot pools and enjoying the steam room and sauna. The hot springs overlook beautiful Lake Tekapo and the snowy mountains and it was such a perfect way to break up our journey from Queenstown to Christchurch.
Tekapo Hot Springs has three hot pools and two cooler pools, in addition to a steam and sauna room with cold plunge pool. It is such a peaceful and relaxing location, surrounded by the very best of nature. I definitely think winter is the best time to visit as I don’t think I would have been able to stay in the hot water for too long in summer. As it was winter, we were able to comfortably spend a few hours moving between the pools and ducking in for sauna and steam room sessions.
We had a great time soaking in the hot springs and would definitely return. It is a really reasonable price for the experience and the location is breathtakingly beautiful. I’d love to try their star gazing night experience next time as well.
