Finnish Lapland is the ultimate winter wonderland! We visited in January and fell in love with the region and all it has to offer. Here are five must have experiences in Finnish Lapland.
Stay in a SnowHotel
Staying in an Ice Hotel or Igloo is a once in a lifetime experience. Where else can you stay in a room carved from ice, eat dinner in an ice restaurant, drink in an ice bar, play in the snow, feed reindeer, have a snow sauna and maybe even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights? We stayed at Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos in one of their snow suites, and the experience was honestly worth every cent. Lapland isn’t cheap, but we had researched and budgeted for this trip of a lifetime, and thanks to our financial independence we were able to say yes to everything! We’ve detailed the costs of our time in Lapland in an article to assist others when visiting: the cost of 24 hours in Rovaniemi.

Visit Santa’s Village
Santa Claus Village, the real home of Santa is located in Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland. The village is located right on the Arctic Circle and kids and those young at heart will be in paradise! At the village you can meet Santa, visit the post office, take a reindeer ride, go husky sledding and so much more!

Spot the Northern Lights
The Northern Lights are visible on roughly 200 nights a year in Finnish Lapland! The conditions do need to be perfect with crisp, clear skies. Lapland is one of the best places on earth to see these magical lights dancing in the skies above you.
Drive your own Husky Sled
Dog sledding is an experience of a lifetime and Bearhill Husky is the place to tick this bucket list item off. There are a lot of dog sledding companies in the region and we took our time to research and find a company which essentially puts the dogs first. It doesn’t get much more incredible than whizzing through the snowy forest with the only noises being the sled and the dogs.

Take a Reindeer Ride
There’s lots of places to take a reindeer ride or safari in Lapland, and we did a short ride in the Santa Claus Village. It felt so magical to be wrapped up in a blanket in the sleigh being pulled by a reindeer as the biggest snowflakes I’ve ever seen fell around us. I honestly felt like we were living a scene from Frozen the movie!
Whilst these are five must have experiences in Finnish Lapland, there are so many more experiences to be had in the region as well. It truly is one of the most epic and awe-inspiring places that we’ve ever visited.
Is Finnish Lapland on your bucket list?
