There are so many bits about travelling the world that are amazing, and I could literally spend all day, every day talking about travel! Whether it’s an epic overseas holiday or closer to home, there’s so many reasons to get out and explore. Here are some of our favourite things about travelling and the reasons why we prioritise travel in our lives.
Experiencing new cultures
Travelling offers you an insight into other cultures like no other. We love visiting new places and seeing the way in which others live. From art to architecture, religion to music, history to natural beauty and food, each destinations around the world offer visitors an insight into other cultures. We’ve travelled to countries that have similar cultures to our own, and countries that have a completely different way of life. I think travelling creates tolerance and understanding, and also helps people to truly appreciate how lucky they are.
Visiting beautful places
There truly is so much beauty in this world and I will never get sick of visiting all the beautiful places. Some of my all time favourite places are Grindelwald in Switzerland, Finnish Lapland, New Zealand’s South Island, Peru, ancient Rome, the Greek Islands and the Maldives. There are so many incredible cities, countries and experiences to have and the hardest thing is deciding where to go next.
Amazing Experiences
Most of our all-time favourite memories are from travelling and the epic experiences we’ve had! From hang-gliding in Brazil to dog sledding in Finland, skiing in Europe, sandboarding in Peru, snorkelling in the Maldives & the Red Sea and seeing elephants in the wild in Sri Lanka, there are so many unforgettable experiences to be had out there!
All the food!
This one is pretty self explanatory! One of our favourite parts about travelling is getting to experience all the different foods. From michelin starred restaurants to street eats, we love to indulge our tastebuds in every destinations we visit! For me, I love the Mediteranean and Middle Eastern cuisines such as Italian, Greek, Turkish and Lebanese. Dan loves Asian foods, particularly Indonesian, Sri Lankan and Indian.
It can be super affordable
A common misconception about travelling, is that you have to have a ton of money to be able to do it. Whilst it is possible to spend a lot of money on holidays, it’s also possible to do it on a small budget. We’ve travelled on all budgets, including a cheap backpacker budget, all the way through to all-inclusive, five star luxury! Booking hotels and airfares far enough in advance and when they are on sale will mean you probably won’t have to break the bank.
We like to stay in self-contained apartments sometimes so that we can wash our clothes and cook, which also saves money. Another way we keep on budget is to explore the places we visit on foot, we find it the best way to explore and see as much as we can! We’ve also both worked overseas on working visas (Simone in the UK and Dan in Australia) and I worked in the USA as a summer camp counsellor. This allowed us to travel for longer because we made money whilst on the road.
Holidays are good for your health
I’m no medical professional, but I personally think that travelling is good for my health! There’s nothing better for your mental health than a holiday! It is also so good for our physical health as our holidays are always super active as we hike, swim and walk so much on holidays, as well as indulge in fresh, local foods and get plenty of relaxation and sleep!
Meeting new people
We love meeting new people when travelling and are lucky enough to have friends all over the world now! We love visiting these friends when travelling and also having people come and visit us in Australia.
It’s super easy to keep in touch these days
Gone are the days of internet cafes, phone cards and travellers cheques! These days it is literally is so easy to keep in touch with everyone back home, make them all jealous on social media and even work on the road!
It is easier than ever to stay connected while you’re on the go, such as by using the best torrent downloader for Mac, which is a platform where you can upload files such as images, and the people at home can see everything that you’re up to.
