Girls trips are good for your mental health, happiness and for your soul! A trip with the girls can be as glamorous, or low key as you like. I’ve taken a cruise around the South Pacific with my favourite girls, backpacked through America & South America with my bestie and we head away for an annual girls weekend every year! There’s so many reasons to get together with your gal pals for a girls trip and here’s why…
To recharge and de-stress
Girls weekends are perfect for switching off from juggling a million things at once, and rest and relax. It’s a perfect time to take a little break from life at home as a career woman/wife/mother etc and recharge your batteries, complete with your favourite gal pals!
There’s nothing to help the stresses of life melt away chatting and laughing away over wine with your favourite girls until the early hours of the morning!
We’ve also chatted about going to a wellness retreat or spa one year so that we can disconnect from technology and recharge the mind, body & soul (as long as we are allowed to bring wine too)!
To reminisce
One of my favourite things about catch ups with my girlfriends and trips away is that we laugh the entire time. I honestly go home with a sore face from laughing so hard! We laugh about things that are happening at the time but also when we reminisce about memories, especially from other trips or from our days at college.
To reconnect
I love my besties more than anything in the world, but life is hectic these days. Gone are the days when we lived within meters of each other at University and as we get older, we learn to really appreciate and value the time we do spend together. Spending a weekend or longer together allows you to reconnect on a much deeper level then just catching up for a meal or drinks.
For a sleepover!
Sleepovers were one of the funnest parts of being a kid, and don’t underestimate the power of a good sleepover, no matter how old we get! There’s nothing more comforting then being in your PJ’s covered in face masks, drinking wine and eating cheese and talking all night long.
To visit somewhere new
Travelling and holidays are so good for you and it’s always nice to visit and explore new places. A girls weekend is the perfect time for that!
To have fun
It wouldn’t be a girls weekend without endless fun! We always love to choose a lovely beach house somewhere along the coast so we can swim, eat plenty of delicious food and of course, drink all the wine!
Girl talk
A girls’ trip allows for complete honesty and unwavering support from the people who love you the most, even with any flaws! It’s the perfect time to not hold back and spend time talking about boys, life, kids, work, plans and everything! I love that I can tell these girls everything without the fear or judgement!
To be inspired
I honestly feel so blessed so have such an amazing close group of girlfriends and these girls inspire me in so many ways! On our weekends away, we split the meals up so everyone cooks one dish. We’ve all become inspired with cooking and learnt a number of different dishes each weekend. I always come away with new knowledge about things such as clothing brands, life hacks or even makeup brands and routines!
To Celebrate and support each other
You really get into the nitty gritty on a girls weekend, and it is the perfect time to celebrate the successes and high’s, whilst also having time for any tears and to support each other through any tough times and lows.
It’s now or never!
Life gets busier the older we get, and so whilst girls trips can take a bit of planning they are so worth the effort. We have one weekend each year that we have as our girls weekend and try to catch up at other times as well but no matter what happens, we have made a pact that we will do everything in our power to spend that one weekend together each October. A bit of planning and of course, making it a priority will ensure that it happens each year and by the end, you’ll be like us and planning where to go next year!
Let’s support our fellow women!
There’s so many ways to support our fellow women.
- Forget jealously, make sure you celebrate the women in your life instead! Their success doesn’t take away from your own.
- Actively promote women, share things on social media and create a community of supportive women.
- Take a girls trip when you can, it’s good for your mental health and wellbeing!
- Follow and support female artists! Below is an infographic on women in theatre and you’ll very quickly see the disparity in numbers with comparison to their male counterparts.
