The Croatian coast has over 1000 islands and provides the perfect opportunity for island hopping. There are islands for everyone, isolated islands, verdant islands, rocky islands, party islands, luxury islands, fishing islands, islands covered in wineries, islands of historical and military significance and of course, every island has picture perfect beaches. The majority of Croatia’s islands aren’t even inhabited! So whether you are looking for a beach break, a party island or to rent a luxurious villa on a Croatian island, there will certainly be a Croatian island that will make your dream holiday come true!
Brač
Brač is one of the largest islands in Croatia and third largest island in the Adriatic. Brač is an island which has found its place on almost every boat tour from Split. It is also one of few islands that has it’s own airport and is a top destination for family trips. It has endless beaches, excellent hiking and is best known for its picturesque beach, Zlatni Rat.
Mljet
Mljet is Croatia’s greenest island, being covered in dense Mediterranean forest! It also boasts clear, clean seas, sandy beaches and some of the best fish and marine life in Croatia. Mljet is also well known for its two salt lakes and its wine, olives and goats cheese! Mljet really has it all.
Hvar
For anyone who wants to rent a boat from Split and find their paradise for the day (or longer), Hvar is a great option! Hvar boasts ancient ruins, medieval churches, a gorgeous Old Town and a fantastic nightlife!
We had a great night out in Hvar Town and also a great day and night in Stari Grad, one of the oldest towns in Europe where we visited an incredible winery here that is also a UNESCO World Heritage site!
Hvar is popular with celebrities and boasts plenty of luxury accommodation, making it one of the most expensive Croatian islands to visit, but well worth it!
Korčula
If you’re interested in wine tasting and Dalmatian cuisine then all that is left for you to do is to find your vacation dream home and start your journey on Korčula!
Often referred to as ‘’small Dubrovnik’’, this island is famous for its white wine, fishing villages and medieval walls.
Vis
Vis is an ex-military fort that is rich in mindblowing history and famous for its wine!
Vis is an explorer’s dream and we spent our day on Vis cycling through the old and new towns, past beautiful bays and coves with the most incredible turquoise and azure waters and stopping to explore historic forts and castles.
Pag
Pag, is famous for its barren, moonlike landscape, lace and cheese! Pag cheese is one of Croatia’s biggest culinary exports.
Kornati
Buying your new home on Murter island or in Vodice is probably one of the the best decision you can make as it brings you close to the Kornati islands!
The Kornati Islands are a stunning archipelago that were declared a national park in 1980. The national park contains over 100 mostly inhabited islands, reefs and craggy rocks. It is said to be the paradise of sailors!
Younger travellers flock to Pag to party at the popular Zrće Beach, known for its nightlife.
Elafiti
The Elafiti islands are an archipelago that are a short ferry ride from Dubrovnik. There are six islands, however only three are inhabited. We visited Lopud and Sipan on a kayaking trip a few years ago!
The islands are known for their rich history, stone churches, olive trees and stunning countryside. The islands are quiet with small populations, extensive farms and incredible local cuisine!
Cres
Last but not least, while enjoying your stay in Istrian villa, make sure you take a trip to Cres island! Cres is a wild, natural island covered in forests, with majestic cliffs, hidden coves and ancient settlements. Exploring Cres allows you to get back in touch with nature.
Krk
Krk Island is Croatia’s largest island and is connected to the mainland by a bridge. Due to its accessibility, it is one of the busiest of the Croatian islands.
It has a varied landscape, with forests, villages and beaches and is more populaed in the south, due to the extreme landscapes and weather in the north!
Make sure you try two of Croatia’s best delicacies, Krk prosciutto and Krk olive oil when visiting the island.
