In Katherine we booked our accommodation at Discovery Parks. Prior to our Tasmania trip in April, we had never really stayed in Big 4/Discovery Parks style accommodation but we very quickly realised it was the perfect place to stay as a family! Discovery Parks are always perfectly located, have great facilities for families and travellers and provide well stocked, self-catered accommodation which we love! We had a great stay in Katherine in our Superior Elevated 2 Bedroom Cabin.
Discovery Parks Katherine is located less than 10 minutes out of central Katherine, on the way to Nitmiluk National Park. You would definitely need your own transport, however I feel like the majority of travellers in the Northern Territory either have their own vehicle or are on a guided tour so I don’t think this would be an issue for most travellers! The Katherine region has so much to offer but we didn’t love the vibe of downtown Katherine itself, so I was really glad that we were staying a little outside Katherine itself. The location also meant it was super peaceful, natural and very quiet with only the odd car driving past!
We booked a Superior Elevated 2 Bedroom Cabin for $630 for three nights, booked directly through the discovery parks website. I hadn’t planned to write about our stay there so I didn’t take many photos but we absolutely loved our stay and would definitely book again if we were to return to the region!
The cabin was elevated which meant it was quiet and private and I’m guessing is elevated in the event it floods during the wet season. There was a great size balcony and the balcony was safe for small kids with a door on the fence and high sides.
Katherine was a lovely temperature when we visited, especially come night time and we enjoyed having our dinner on the balcony each evening.
We had a living/dining area and kitchen which was well stocked, a clean, spacious bathroom with separate toilet and two bedrooms. Our bedroom had a queen sized bed and the other bedroom had three single beds, with plenty of room for all our luggage and Addie’s travel cot. The beds were comfortable, had nice linen and there was plenty of extra pillows and bedding.
We loved that the living room and both bedrooms all had ceiling fans as well as their own air conditioning unit. Obviously the Northern Territory is very hot for most of the year so this meant we could keep the cabin lovely and cool!
The staff at the Discovery Parks could not have been more friendly or helpful! We had a small issue with our fridge when we arrived and they had a new fridge delivered to us within 5 minutes! They were so friendly and the cabin and grounds were spotlessly clean our entire stay.
The park had bbq facilities, a camp kitchen, shared amenities, guest laundry and a lovely inground pool! The pool was a lifesaver after a day exploring Nitmiluk National Park, it was refreshing and had a huge shade cover which was very welcome!
Again, we loved our stay and could not fault it in any way. It was perfect for families and we loved our cabin. The sites and facilities for caravaners looked great too!
